Beyond the Treatment Room | My Vision for Education, Athletes & Wellness

When I became a Registered Massage Therapist nearly ten years ago, I thought my career would always look the same.

One treatment room. One patient at a time. Helping people feel better.

While that part of my work will always be incredibly important to me, I've come to realize something over the years:

The treatment room was never the destination, it wasjust the beginning.

Every patient I've worked with has taught me something about the human body. About pain. About movement. About recovery. About the connection between physical health, mental resilience, performance, and overall wellness. Those lessons have slowly shaped a vision that's much bigger than one appointment at a time. As I enter the next chapter of my career, I find myself asking a different question.

How can I help more people recover, even when they're not on my treatment table?

That's the question driving everything I'm currently building.

Teaching Recovery

One area I'm incredibly excited to grow is education.

Over the next several years, I'll be developing workshops and educational experiences that teach people how to better understand their own bodies and become active participants in their recovery.

The goal isn't to replace massage therapy. The goal is to help people build confidence, recognize movement patterns, understand recovery, and learn practical tools they can continue using long after they've left the clinic. Because the best recovery doesn't happen in a single appointment. It happens through understanding, consistency, and knowing what your body needs.

Growing Kettlebell Sport in Canada

Many of you already know that I compete internationally in kettlebell sport and have the honour of representing Team Canada. Not only as an athlete but as the Team Representative. I’ve had the pleasure of growing our current team by 80% since mid August 2025, and being able to witness the team take second place during our last visit to a World Championship (May 2026).

What many people don't know is that some of my most meaningful work happens off the competition platform.

I'm passionate about helping grow kettlebell sport across Canada by creating stronger athlete pathways and access to information, supporting coaches and officials, mentoring new competitors, and helping more Canadians discover a sport that has had a profound impact on my own life.

I believe Canada has the potential to become a leader in the international kettlebell community, and I'm excited to play a small part in helping build that future.

Sharing What I've Learned

Another area I'm looking forward to expanding is mentorship.

After nearly a decade in practice, I've learned techniques, assessment strategies, and ways of thinking that simply aren't taught in most classrooms. I'm excited to begin sharing those experiences with other practitioners through mentorship opportunities, advanced education, and hands-on learning.

Some of those opportunities will be designed for Registered Massage Therapists. Others will be open to bodyworkers, movement professionals, coaches, and wellness practitioners who want to expand the way they think about recovery and human movement. One of the greatest gifts of experience is being able to pass it on.

I believe our professions become stronger when we continue learning from one another, and assist eachother in growth for the better of our community.

Why This Work Matters

People often ask me what I'm working toward. The answer is actually pretty simple. I'm working toward helping more people than I could ever reach by myself.

Yes, I'll continue treating patients. Yes, I'll continue building Total Recovery. But I also want to teach and mentor.

I want to create opportunities for people to better understand their own bodies. I want to support athletes chasing performance and competition dreams. I want to help practitioners grow in confidence and skill and I want to contribute to a healthcare community that believes recovery should be thoughtful, collaborative, and empowering.

When I look ahead, I don't see myself stepping away from the treatment room. I see myself fully present in the treatment room, while also creating space to build something that reaches much further.

It means a lot to reflect on the people who have been part of this journey over the years.

Whether you've trusted me as your therapist, followed along with my athletic journey, or simply cheered me on from the sidelines, you've helped shape this story—and I'm excited for everything that's still ahead.

I can't wait to share more of it with you as it evolves.

With absolute gratitude,

Lyndsay Budgell
